Abstract

Pharmaceutical care aims to promote the patient's quality of life by working on health promotion and recovery. However, there may be challenges in addressing drug-induced hepatitis. The pharmacist is the professional who seeks to ensure rational drug use and combat indiscriminate use. The objective was to describe the importance of pharmaceutical monitoring in drug therapy and the risks of self-medication. A literature review of scientific articles in Portuguese language was conducted on Google Scholar database, using the keywords "Pharmaceutical Care" and "Drug-Induced Hepatitis" published in the years 20.. and 20... The liver is a vital organ, responsible for metabolizing and eliminating toxins. Studies report a growing trend of indiscriminate drug use, resulting in liver damage. These long-term damages can lead to patient mortality, therefore the maintenance and attention in drug therapies are of paramount importance. Pharmaceutical care is crucial to combat self-medication and mitigate cases of drug-induced hepatitis. However, there are still challenges in raising awareness among the population. It is essential to promote educational initiatives about hepatitis and the pharmaceutical role in rational drug use.
